In this article we'll introduce you to the Digital Work Permit, its function, how to issue it and we'll also answer some frequently asked questions about its use.
The Work and Social Security Card (CTPS) is the document that records the entire professional career of workers. First and foremost, it guarantees access to the labor rights provided for by law.
Currently, the document is issued primarily in digital format. And only exceptionally in physical format, as was the case until a while ago.
It can be issued by anyone registered with the Individual Taxpayer Register (CPF). In other words, if you have a CPF, you can issue the CTPS Digital.
The aim of creating the online version of the document was to make life easier for workers by bringing together their professional experiences in an application that can be quickly accessed by smartphone.
It allows all citizens to consult information on old and current employment contracts, to apply for unemployment insurance or to monitor the granting of benefits.
The great advantage of using the Digital Work Permit is the speed with which you can request the document and access information. It also integrates data from various federal government systems.
As a result, the average time it takes to serve workers is reduced, there is greater use of the job vacancies available in the country and labor information is found in a single place.
By January 2022, more than 50 million Brazilian workers had already issued their Digital Card, either through mobile apps or through their computer. Since 2019, when it began to replace the physical card in many cases, there have been more than 535 million accesses to the digital document.
If you still have doubts about how the Digital CTPS works or don't know how to issue the document, below we show you a step-by-step guide and answer the most frequently asked questions on the subject.
What is the digital online work permit for?
- Monitoring employment contracts;
- Applying for unemployment insurance;
- Observation of payment schedules for salary allowances, emergency benefits and others;
- Sharing and proving professional experience in new hiring opportunities.
How to issue the Digital Work Permit (online)?

How do I see my Digital Work Permit number?
- Access the application and click on "Login";
- Log in with your Gov.br account;
- The digital work permit number is your CPF number.
Many people have doubts about their ID number. Unlike the physical document, the CTPS number is the same as the CPF number.
When you open the application on your cell phone, the message "Hello (worker's name)" will appear at the top of the screen. The CPF number will appear below. This is what must be entered when the card number is requested.
Even if the worker has a physical work permit, the number on their digital CTPS will be their CPF number.

Does the digital CTPS replace the printed one?
With the publication of Ordinance No. 1065 by the Ministry of Economy on September 23, 2019, the Digital CTPS is now equivalent to the physical CTPS for labor and employment purposes.
Since then, employers have been updating their employees' data through the eSocial portal and no longer making entries in their employee ID cards.
However, it is not valid as a civil identification document, as is the case with the older version. In addition, employees of public bodies or international institutions still need to use the physical format.
So, even if you've already been using the CTPS Digital, keep hold of yours, as it proves old employment contracts and may be required if you start a new job in the public sector.
Can I change the data in my Digital Wallet?
The CTPS Digital is issued using the worker's CPF data. Therefore, if irregular data appears in the application, it is a sign that the problems lie with the Individual Taxpayer Register.
Therefore, if you find incorrect information such as name, gender, mother's name, date of birth, nationality, etc., you should contact the Receita Federal to have the data corrected.
My CPTS Digital has Pending Indicators. What does this mean?
Some applications can point to Pending Indicators. As such, these indicators were created by the Federal Government's systems with the aim of ensuring that there is greater integrity and consistency in the information provided.
This is because the information that reaches the bases of the National Register of Social Information undergoes filtering and processing before being used in government systems and applications.
When the Digital CTPS shows pending indicators, it is necessary to update the information in the CNIS so that the data can be released for use by the SIBE (Integrated Benefits System).
It can also point to Alert or Hit Indicators. Alert indicators indicate periods of employment that show possible eligibility for special retirement. Hit Indicators, on the other hand, are then carried out by the INSS on certain jobs, indicating whether or not they fit into the system.
